Having already released music on some top White Isle-inspired labels since he debuted a decade ago - Afficionado Recordings and Claremont 56 included - Simon Peter makes his bow on Coyote's Is It Balearic? imprint. The focal point is title track 'Souvenir'. Peter's original take is typical of his work to date, with softly strummed acoustic guitars, warm electric piano and Marker Starling's hazy vocals rising above a gentle, stripped-back groove. Peaking Lights step up to remix first, offering nods aplenty to Brian Wilson on a gorgeously layered ambient-goes-Balearic translation, before Coyote take the track further into space on their superb dub. Elsewhere, 'Still Going' is a gorgeous acoustic number underpinned by shuffling drums, while Robi Mitch collaboration 'Mystikal Delight' is neo-folk perfection.
